Custom one-colour machine cut heat transfer for fabric

We produce one-colour cut heat transfer pictures based on your design for T-shirts, sportswear, workwear, tote bags and many other textile items. The design is cut from pre-coloured heat transfer film, which means the design has no background – only the text, logo or symbol remains and the background is the fabric itself.

A machine-cut one-colour transfer is an ideal solution when you need clean, sharp shapes, numbers or text that will last a long time and still look good after many washes.

What is a one-colour cut transfer suitable for?

Pre-coloured heat transfer films are widely used for applying logos and graphics to textiles – sportswear, shirts, bags, flags and many other products. Our heat transfer material is suitable for all types and colours of fabrics, as long as the fabric can withstand ironing. A cut heat transfer decal is especially suitable for one-colour designs where a clear outline and a background-free result are important. It is a great choice for:

  • adding numbers and names to sports shirts;
  • company logos and symbols on workwear;
  • text on tote bags, aprons and other promotional or gift items;
  • stylised symbols, icons and simple silhouettes.

This product is not suitable for photos, colour gradients or very detailed images – for such designs it is better to choose the printed multi-colour transfer for fabric.

Cut vs. printed transfer – when to choose which?

For fabric we offer two main solutions: printed transfers and one-colour cut transfers. In short, the difference is:

  • One-colour cut transfer (this product): the design is cut from pre-coloured heat transfer vinyl – no inks are used. The design itself forms the picture; there is no background layer, and the fabric acts as the background colour. Best for logos, numbers, simple text and one-colour graphics. Typically washable up to about 60 °C.
  • Printed multi-colour transfer for fabric: the picture is printed onto white transfer material using inks. Best for photos, colourful illustrations and detailed artwork. There is always a white background around the image and it is typically washable up to about 40 °C.

A simple rule of thumb: if you have a one-colour logo, text or symbol, choose this one-colour cut transfer. If your design is a photo or a multi-colour, detailed image, choose the printed transfer.

How to prepare your design?

The best type of file for a cut transfer is a vector file with clear outlines. If you do not have a vector file, you can send us an image where the design is as dark as possible on a light background (ideally black on white). The colours in the file itself are not important, because we do not use inks – the final colour comes from the roll of heat transfer vinyl we use.

  • recommended formats: SVG, EPS, AI, PDF;
  • a good quality black-and-white or high-contrast raster image (JPG, PNG, GIF) can also work, but it may need extra preparation;
  • avoid very thin lines and extremely small text (below about 3–5 mm line thickness), as these are difficult to cut cleanly and to weed (remove excess vinyl), and tiny details will not last long on the fabric;
  • the more detailed the design, the longer it takes to weed the excess film from around the design before pressing it onto the fabric.

If you are not sure whether your design is suitable for a cut transfer, you can send us the file for review – just tell us what you want to use it for and we will advise whether a cut or printed solution is better.

How to order?

When ordering, please follow these steps:

  • upload your logo, text or other design in the product customization section before adding the product to the cart, or send your files after placing the order to info@thesigns24.com with your order reference;
  • choose the size of the heat transfer sheet (for example A5, A4, A3) and the vinyl colour;
  • if you need exact dimensions, write the required width and height in the customization field or in the order comments.

On a single sheet it is possible to place up to several smaller designs of the same colour, as long as they fit within the chosen sheet size. If you do not specify otherwise, we will produce your design at the maximum size that fits inside the selected sheet while keeping the original proportions. If you need precise measurements, please write them in the comments before selecting the colour and other options.

How to apply the cut transfer to fabric?

The cut transfer, made from pre-coloured polyurethane film, can be applied using a household iron and a heat-resistant flat surface. For preparation it is helpful to have a sharp knife or tweezers.

  • 1. Before application, remove the excess film from around the design (weeding). This is easier with a sharp knife or tweezers.
  • 2. Place the fabric on a firm, heat-resistant, flat surface or ironing board, then place the transfer on the fabric so that the clear carrier film is on top and the vinyl side is facing down against the fabric.
  • 3. Iron the design for about 20 seconds at a medium–high setting (around two to three dots on most irons), applying steady pressure. If the vinyl does not adhere properly, increase the temperature slightly.
  • 4. Wait 20-45 seconds for the transfer to cool, then carefully peel off the clear carrier film at about a 45° angle, checking that all parts of the design remain firmly attached. All done.

The fabric must be able to withstand heat and ironing. Some fabrics can technically be ironed but may still change colour when heated, so we recommend testing on a small inconspicuous area first. Full, detailed application instructions are included with your order and are also available as a separate guide if needed.

Material and care

This is a high-quality plotter-cut, one-colour polyurethane heat transfer vinyl for various fabrics. The film is elastic, opaque and has a pleasant, slightly satin finish.

  • suitable for cotton and cotton blends as well as many types of sportswear (as long as they can be ironed);
  • after application, the garment can typically be machine washed up to 60 °C (wash inside out);
  • we recommend a gentle or standard wash programme;
  • do not use strong bleaches or abrasive detergents;
  • if a small part of the design starts to lift over time, it can usually be re-pressed with an iron;
  • if you need to iron the garment, use baking paper or a protective sheet over the design.

With correct application and care, a cut transfer will withstand normal everyday use for many seasons. If you need help choosing the right material or colour, feel free to contact us.
